The Fisheries and Martime Museum

Esbjerg’s Fisheries and Maritime Museum is for the entire family. The museum conveys Denmark’s versatile maritime history which includes fishing history and offshore oil adventures. You can also experience seals playing in the museum’s sealarium.

Dive into Denmark’s maritime history
The Fisheries and Maritime Museum gives you the possibility to dive into Denmark’s maritime history. Among other things you can learn about humans’ relation to the sea up through history and how life under the surface has evolved. The museum’s offshore exhibition is also well worth a visit. Here you don’t only learn about the extraction of gas and oil – you also get an insight into what it’s like to work and live on an offshore rig.

See Denmark’s largest sea mammal
Did you know that the seal is Denmark’s largest sea mammal? In the museum’s sealarium you can get close to Denmark’s two seal species – spotted seals and grey seals. Through large underwater windows you can see the seals play under water and the children can have a look through one of the many windows set at their height. Every day between 11.00 and 14.30 you can see the seals being fed. Furthermore, you can experience almost every type of fish found in the Danish waters in the large saltwater tank.

MS Smag and the best view in town
Visiting the museum is a great experience but if you want to make it an awesome experience, you should eat at the museum’s restaurant – MS Smag. Everything is prepared from scratch and the ambitious kitchen staff creates wonderful dishes using the best local produce in season. There is something for everyone – including delicious fish dishes. And it is no secret that the restaurant offers the best view in town.

Broaden your knowledge, experience the seals and have a great meal. If you haven’t been to The Fisheries and Maritime Museum yet, you really should get going.
