Tipperne

Do you find birds extremely interesting? Then the Tipperne that is located in Tarm is the ideal place for you. The Tipper peninsula can be found in the southern part of Ringkøbing Fjord. In 1928, the northern part of the peninsula became a protected area because of an interest in preserving its amazing bird life, which is primarily what the Tipperne is known for.

Birdlife
The peninsula is best known for its bird sanctuary. The area has an incredible birdlife, where you can find approximately 170 different bird species. Especially the migratory birds in Denmark can be found in large flocks before they migrate to warmer conditions in the south. Therefore, it is possible to observe these birds around spring and fall where they settle down at the Tipperne.

Other birds at the Tipperne that can be mentioned are the shorebirds. They migrate to this area in order to find food on the coast. The dunlin is the most frequent shorebird. It can even be seen in flocks of up to 10,000 birds. Other frequently seen shorebirds in the area are:

  • Eurasian curlew
  • Bar- and black-tailed godwit
  • European golden plover
  • Grey plover
  • Common snipe
  • Red knot

You are most likely to see the shorebirds around July and August, where they have their high season at the Tipperne.
