The Little Mermaid

Langelinie, 2100 København Ø

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid has welcomed travellers at Langelinie in Copenhagen since 1913. The sculpture is inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale with the same name and is one of Denmark’s best-known tourist attractions.

Throughout the years, The Little Mermaid has been vandalized several times. She has lost her head twice and has had paint poured over her numerous times. Every time, though, she is saved and cleaned so she can continue to bring joy to Danes and tourists alike.
