Gribskov
Gribskov covers
more than 5600 hectare and is the largest old forest in Denmark. It mainly consists
of broad-leaved trees. The forest is home to Denmark’s largest population of
wild fallow deer, but you’ll also find many other animals. If you’re lucky, you
might even see breeding fish eagles or beavers. There are several observation
towers in the forest where you can observe the animal and bird life.
Gribskov has
six hiking trails of various lengths. Several of these are paved. There is also
a 1,5 km long handicap trail with info boards and cellphone guides. Should you
want to take a break during your hike, there are several fire pits with tables
and benches in the forest. If you would like to spend the night in the beautiful
scenery, it is possible to raise a tent at three primitive campsites.
There are
many exciting attractions and experiences in Gribskov. For example, you can
visit Esrum Monastery which has both a museum, a convent garden and a nature
playground. The monastery also hosts various events such as Esrum Middle Ages.
