Man at Sea/ The four white men
In 1995 Esbjerg Kommune celebrated their 100th anniversary. In honour of the anniversary the sculpture Man at Sea was made and placed a little north of Esbjerg at Sædding Beach.
The 9-metre-high sculpture consists of a row of four men made from white concrete. Therefore, the sculpture is also called the four white men. The man behind the sculpture is the artist Svend Wiig Hansen, who studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Art (Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi).
The artist himself said, that the sculpture represents the encounter between man and nature as well as the encounter between civilization and sea. Today, the sculpture is one of Esbjerg's landmarks and is a very popular tourist attraction well worth a visit.
