Flyvholm Redningsstation - gratis museum

Close to Harboøre and the North Sea lies Flyvholm Redningsstation, which was used as a base for rescue missions at the west coast, 'Iron Coast', from 1847 and more than 100 years forward.
The modest building lies within the dike between Langerhuse and Vrist.

In this building, the rescue workers lived, and from here, they have saved sailors from drowning. Flyvholm Rescue Station has saved more than 700 people from the drowning death, often in horrible weather conditions that have demanded huge sacrifices where the lives of the rescuers were in imminent danger.

At the station, a large lifeboat with oars and equipment is currently exhibited, which has been in use until the end of the 1960s.

Flyvholm Redningsstation is a part of Projekt Jernkysten that via an App makes the shipwreck history available. The history of seafarers, anglers and rescuers who have been subject to the harsh and unforgiving North Sea.
