Named after Knud II, who was king in Denmark from 1080-86 and later got the byname "the Holy".
The skeleton of the king can be seen in the crypt of the church.
The church with its Gothic cathedral and the high and bright nave was built in the 14. century and is one of the most beautiful Gothic monument in Denmark.
