Store Dyrehave
Store
Dyrehave is a 1230-hectare large forest dominated by beech and Norway spruce.
The forest is ideal for fresh air and exercise. There are several hiking trails
of varying length, an orienteering route with 80 posts, a mountain bike trail
and much more.
If you want
to enjoy the forest without getting your heart rate up, there are picnic tables
and benches where you can enjoy a picnic. It is also possible to grill and cook
your food at the various barbecue and fire pits in the forest. Should you want
to spend the night in the beautiful scenery, you can raise a tent at the campsite
at Rågårdshus (remember to book in advance) or at the campsite at Odderdam.
There are
several attractions in Store Dyrehave. For example, you can visit Fantasy
Island (Fantasiens Ø), where King Frederik VII built a small mansion for him
and countess Danner. Unfortunately, the mansion has been torn down, but you can
still see a boulder end wall. Another fun thing to see is Karen’s Beech (Karens
Bøg). It is small group of old and crooked beeches which form a cave.
